Samples of perebory technique

These painting experiments below were aimed to combining belarusian tradional weaving technique "perebory" with painting. The most symbolical meaning has The reindeer visitnig Bialowieza forest. The painting is a tribute to the Laplanders, as an expression of appreciation for their actions within political sovereignty and respect for nature. Ornaments similar to Christmas trees and rhomboidal sun is supposed to resemble Belorussian carpets. This piece is combination of the weaving technique perebrory with painting. The subject of the river is taken from belarusian traditional kilims. Two trees joined together symmetrically with the lower parts resemble the popular motif of river in the Belarusian kilim. These tapestries were depiciting river symbolically witht parallel colored stripes and geometricised waves. The use of gold refers to the sacral folk art, emphasizing the cult of nature. Christmas trees were placed horizontally as lying, which symbolizes the current situation in which the trees in Bialowieza Forest looks like now. Curved and gilded sun at the very top of the format means all kinds of solar deities. The halves of the golden diamond do not perfectly adhre to each other, to emphasize the imperfection of folk weaving, which I perceive as their greatest value.
