Consumer animals
Krynki Gallery, 2017, as part of Jan Gryka's exhibition entitled From Rene Margritte to Krynki's Cutthroat, during XVIII Trialog.
The performance consisted in painting blood-red oil and resin paint using syringes. The canvas was covered with a layer of relief resembling lard. Portraits of animals intended for consumption looked gruesome, thanks to red paint stains. The heads of the animals were directed to the left - towards the Other World. To make an imitation of painting using dead animals (killed by the Krynki's Cutthroat), 2 kilos of lard drowned on the stove in a pot. The smell of paint and lard was hard to bear, which increased the viewers' confidence that I was painting with real blood. Red in Belarusian weaving symbolizes blood, and so life. My action was a fun metaphor, I painted using unconventional objects to create the illusion that I create art objects from dead animals. However, in reality, I did not do anything illegal, immoral or considered universally reprehensible.
